Today I’ve read the article “Four health-conscious cities putting pedestrians first” on BBC.com. Inspired by Covid-19's long lockdowns and safety concerns, cities are implementing pedestrian-friendly initiatives and pushing for more car-free spaces. One of the cities to implement it is Paris, even before the pandemic, Paris had a head start in becoming more pedestrian-friendly. The pandemic, paired with numerous public-transportation strikes prior to lockdown, only strengthened the popularity of these human-centric and environmentally sustainable initiatives. Additional bike lanes have also been introduced to alleviate car traffic. The city also plans to plant 170,000 trees by 2026, with the intention of cooling Paris to make it more comfortable and enjoyable for pedestrians. I see this initiative as a very positive one, first of all to our environment and quality of life of citizens.

Today I’ve read the article “UK looks to Sweden for a solution to nuclear waste” on BBC.com. Row upon row of long metal containers, filled with used nuclear fuel from the country's reactors, lie below the surface near Oskarshamn, on Sweden's Baltic coast. It is both highly lethal and entirely safe. Lethal, because this material is intensely radioactive; safe, because it sits beneath 8m of water, a very effective barrier against radiation. The question of what to do with it afterwards, though, is one that many governments, including that of the UK, have been grappling with for years. Sweden has already reached its own conclusions. It plans to bury its waste in rock deep underground and leave it there for good.
This is a process known as geological disposal, and the country's scientists have spent decades studying different ways in which it could be carried out. Hundreds of metres beneath the surface, a network of huge man-made caverns has been drilled into the rock. This problem should be solved asap because I suppose the nuclear power is the only real alternative on the way to energy independence.

Today I’ve read the article “Should billboard advertising be banned?” on BBC.com. Campaigner Charlotte Gage says that the outdoor adverts you see on billboards and bus stops should all be removed. These ads are in the public space without any consultation about what is shown on them, they cause light pollution, and the ads are for things people can't afford, or don't need, she says. There are some adfree cities in the world like Sao Paolo, Grenoble, Amsterdam. Another point of view says that all advertising plays a crucial role in brand competition, drives product innovation, and fuels economic growth and individual citizens are not the helpless, brainless automatons that Adfree Cities considers them to be. I think that ads are really excessive sometimes and it should be better controlled because they may distract drivers and cause accidents or in general stimulate unnecessary purchases because not all people are immune to ads and financially conscious.

Firstly, the main idea to make up these methods was appeared after the corona pandemic which impacted the supplies to medical companies.
